about

When practicing a Liszt piece, I accidentally played some black keys. It sounded really interesting. I played more with the pentatonic scale and I eventually created the slightly dissonant chordal pattern that opens the song. I based the whole song off of this pattern, writing in the moto perpetuo form, adding different ideas to the background theme that hardly ever changes or changes, at least, very slowly.

The lyrics of this piece came at the same time as the music, some of the lyrics coming from feelings I had recently been experiencing and other parts of the lyrics coming from the repeated dream I had been having the nights before (which seemed to be very fitting for this form of music).

Most of all, the song just expresses my longing for someone so strongly that I can hear her voice and feel her presence.

lyrics

I can hear you
as the wind blows your voice through the trees
And I can feel you
as I sit here and watch the sunset and feel the breeze

I connect the dots to find
you're lost at sea with me
In these dreams
were lost at sea

I can hear your voice in the crowded street
(like Gibbs or East)
And I remember all the places where we used to meet
(on the promenade)
It seems so long, so long since I have seen you
Still I can hear you yeah

(I still hear you)

And all you say is my name
So I say your name back
'cause when you are beside me
there's not a thing we lack

And all I hear is your voice saying my name
So I say your name back
And when I think of your face
I swear we were on the right track yeah
